A diamond grading report is your proof of exactly what you are buying. Here is how to read one, and how to verify it yourself.
Who grades our diamonds
Every Sprezzatura diamond is graded by an independent laboratory — most often the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or IGI (International Gemological Institute). These labs have no stake in the sale, which is what makes their assessment trustworthy.
What a report tells you
- Shape and cutting style — e.g. round brilliant, oval, or emerald.
- Measurements — the diamond’s dimensions in millimeters.
- Carat weight — precise to the hundredth of a carat.
- Color grade — D through Z.
- Clarity grade — Flawless through Included, usually with a plotted diagram of inclusions.
- Cut grade — for round diamonds, Excellent through Poor.
- Polish and symmetry — how well the diamond was finished.
- Fluorescence — whether the diamond glows under UV light.
- Report number — a unique ID, often laser-inscribed on the diamond’s girdle.
How to verify a report
You never have to take our listing at face value. Every report can be checked directly on the issuing lab’s website using its number — GIA through its Report Check tool, IGI through its Verify Your Report tool. Enter the report number and you will see the same grades we list. On many stones, that number is also microscopically inscribed on the diamond itself.
Natural vs lab-grown reports
Both natural and lab-grown diamonds are graded on the same scales. Lab-grown reports clearly state that the diamond is laboratory-grown, so there is never any ambiguity about origin.
Why it matters
Certification protects you. It confirms quality, prevents overpaying for an overstated grade, and gives your piece documented value for insurance and resale. If a diamond is not certified, we do not sell it.
